Who We Are
Mentis Academy was conceived and developed by a group of academics, thought-leaders, and entrepreneurs who came together to address a perceived gap in business school education. Simply put, not many business schools offer a comprehensive program in entrepreneurship that equips their graduates fully to conceive, test, and launch a new business.
Over the course of three years, we spoke to professors, business leaders, researchers, authors and professional associations of business and social entrepreneurs to learn what is working, and what is not working, in the education of entrepreneurs.
We believe that our program that has resulted from this dialogue presents an advance upon offerings currently available. Its innovation is rooted in a curriculum design that demands a tightly woven integration of advanced conceptual knowledge about business with professional skills, competencies, and capabilities derived from experience in applied management techniques.
Mission and Values
The mission of Mentis Academy is to empower, enable and equip aspiring entrepreneurs to be successful in launching innovative businesses. We aspire to foster the acquisition and development of knowledge derived from advanced academic concepts that can be applied and practiced.
We aim to do so by producing graduates who have a balanced combination of advanced theoretical and conceptual knowledge in business and entrepreneurship, along with the intellectual skills and core competencies to apply that knowledge effectively in a variety of situations, and the professional capabilities, attitudes, and behaviors necessary to become self-actualized entrepreneurs.
To achieve this mission, and to give academic expression to the entrepreneurial spirit that is the hallmark of both mature and emerging economies as witnessed by the stunning number of start-ups, technology hubs, incubators and schools of entrepreneurship, the Academy has developed a curriculum based on the contributions of entrepreneurs, business owners, and esteemed faculty who have mentored start-ups.
The most successful entrepreneurs create the future, and increasingly they do so in an environment where the future happens fast. The pace of technological change is accelerating, product cycles are shortening, international competition is increasing, and many forms of capital financing remain scarce. In a global context, the challenges faced by entrepreneurs are great. They are required to grow businesses, which requires an unwavering focus on their project and steadfast determination to follow through on a plan, in a global economy that demands business in general to be flexible, mobile, and rapidly adaptive to change.
As the pace of change accelerates, entrepreneurs require specific skills to rise to the challenge. Increasingly, business schools are criticized for failing to keep pace with change, for ignoring the skills required of graduates by employers, and for engaging in research that fails to reach practitioners. By contrast, the experiential focus of Mentis Academy integrates the range of conceptual arts in business, including product development, strategy, management, marketing, and finance, among others. We are focused on providing our graduates with a worldly intelligence derived from practical skills and empirical observation that are the product of the varied experience of the faculty.
